MD Radiodiagnosis from mysore medical college, residency experience

Dr Ashraf Nadaf is from hubli He did MBBS from Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences, Hubli and MD radiodiagnosis from Mysore Medical College & Research Institute, Mysore


What is the cut off rank for your college?
Cut off rank during 2016: 989

 
No of PG seats?
5 MD seats per batch. Now increased to 10 MD seats.

 
What are the usual working hours?  Night duties?
Usual working hours: 8.45 am to 5 pm.
Duties: 5 - 6 per month. No post duty off.

 

What you did as a 1,2 and 3rd year resident?
1st year: X ray reporting, Saving MLC X-rays & CTs, Saving Interesting USG, CT & MRI cases, USG report writing & CT report typing, X ray procedures & appointments, CT Appointments, Bedside Neurosonograms in NICU.

2nd year: Make provisionals of CT & MRI, USG guided procedures.

3rd year: Study, guide juniors, make difficult provisionals.
Useless work: Giving appointments for CT.

 

What are the modalities available?

Modalities available:

4 X-ray machines, all CR

3 USGs (two Phillips Affiniti 70 & 50, one Esaote)

Elastography: Yes. Thyroid, Breast & Liver.

Mammo: Yes.

CT: one 128 slice Siemens Definition Edge 20 to 30 body scans, 50 brain scans. Dual energy CT KUB for stones done routinely.

MRI: One, 1.5T GE optima MR 360. 30 to 40 per day including MRCP, MSK & Abdomen.
Interventions: USG guided biopsies, FNAC, Drainage procedures like pig tail, renal & liver biopsies.

 

How much is the stipend?

Stipend: 30k, 35k & 40k respectively(now 45,50 and 55k).

 

Is there any compulsory bond service?

Compulsory bond: Yes. One year.

 

How is the faculty?

Faculty are excellent. Dr. Sanjay has done MSK minifellowship & he conducts daily spotter sessions on his telegram group.

 
Seminars: 5 days a week, except on Sat & Sun.

Accomodation: 3 & 2 sharing. If you become a mess prefect, you'll be offered single room in final year. Mess is good.

 
How is the city?

Mysore is the best city to live in & explore near by areas. Great food, climate & people.

 

How you rate your college?
College rating: 8/10, Academics: 9/10.

 
Are you happy with your choice?
Very happy with my choice.

 

Whichever the college you may get, in the end it all comes down to how you make use of the department & excel in the field.
